New Campus Registrar for Cave Hill

The UWI Cave Hill Campus has announced that Mr. Rommel Carter, who was the Director of Human Resources at Cave Hill, has been appointed to the post of Campus Registrar. He is also a proud UWI graduate

Mr Carter’s academic achievements include an MBA (Information Management) from the University of Hull and a BA (History) from The University of the West Indies.  He is currently pursuing a Certificate in Corporate Innovation at Stanford University.  Mr Carter holds membership in professional bodies such as The British Computer Society, the Association of Commonwealth Universities HR in HE Community and Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).  He also sits on committees of various local bodies.

With nineteen (19) years’ experience in the higher education sector, Mr. Carter has held leadership positions at The Barbados Community College and The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.  He commenced employment at the Cave Hill Campus as a Functional Analyst for a brief stint, was re-assigned as Assistant Registrar (Student Affairs – Admissions), before moving to the Human Resources Section as Senior Assistant Registrar (Human Resources) followed by Director (Human Resources).Mr Carter has contributed significantly to several key initiatives including:

·         recommending the improvement of the student experience through the establishment of the Student Enrolment and Retention Unit (SERU), which functions as a quality assurance body for the student experience on Campus.

·         recommending the establishment of the Enterprise Systems Support Unit (ESSU), which was designed to support the Campus in its decision making and improvement in the internal operating processes.  

·         the revision of the recruitment process to allow for transparency and greater confidence in the system.

Mr Carter acted as Campus Registrar for one year while Mr Kenneth Walters, current Campus Registrar was on sabbatical leave.  This allowed him the opportunity to gain a full understanding of the responsibilities of that office.  His range of experiences has equipped him with the expertise needed for the position of Campus Registrar.  This, coupled with his leadership style which focuses on consultation, communication, consensus building and his desire to see staff become the best that they can be, are key characteristics for a Campus Registrar in transforming a University in the 21st century.
