UWI encourages Caribbean to take COVID-19 vaccine

This is the message UWI COVID-19 Task Force at a forum moderated by Caleb Gardiner, guild president of The UWI Five Islands Campus and member of The UWI COVID-19 Task Force. Immunologist and Chair of The UWI COVID-19 Task Force, Professor Clive Landis spoke to the effectiveness of modern vaccines and warned against the loss of confidence in vaccines due to misinformation spread by the modern “anti-vax” movement, which has resulted in an unnecessary and dangerous upsurge in the infection rates of avoidable diseases.

For his global advocacy, academic scholarship and intellectual leadership in support of social justice, institutional equity, and economic development for marginalised and oppressed ethnicities and nations, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, was honoured by Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) on Dr Martin Luther King (MLK) Day-January 18-with the Peace and Freedom Award.

Congratulations Class of 2020

Our newest UWI graduates were celebrated in ceremonies across the region from Jan 10 – 15th. The UWI Graduation season also included for the first time the Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda. Six women have made history as the first graduates from The UWI’s newest campus which was established in 2019.

Covid-19 prevented the Class of 70 celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2020 –so in 2021, the IAD will be hosting a virtual celebration for the combined Classes of 70 and 71 so that those graduates can still reconnect and celebrate this milestone! We are aiming for June 16, 2021 and will be sharing details soon.
