Fellow Pelicans, I hope that 2024 has started well for you all. It promises to be another interesting year. I thought I would focus on health and wellness as I close – as with all the responsibilities we have, it is important to remember to take the time to take care of ourselves first! Here are five key tips to help you stay healthy and vibrant: 1. Prioritize Nutrition: A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains provides essential nutrients for optimal functioning. 2. Stay Hydrated: Drinking 8 glasses of water daily supports hydration, aids digestion, and helps regulate body temperature. 3. Get Regular Exercise: Physical activity is essential for cardiovascular health, maintaining muscle tone, and boosting mood. Participate in a 5K with other Pelicans and make an online group donation to UWI student scholarships at uwi.edu/giving as you celebrate at the finish line! 4. Quality sleep: This is crucial for overall health and well-being, supporting immune function, cognitive function, and emotional well-being. 5. Manage Stress: Chronic stress can negatively impact both physical and mental health. Stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, or engaging in hobbies and activities you enjoy, will lower your stress levels, as will travel - plan to visit the Caribbean and your campus!
