UWI, Mona Hosts Lecture to Mark 150th Anniversary of Chattel Slavery

Dr. Raymond Brown, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission examines the topic Chattel Slavery in the United States of America in a public lecture organized by the Department of History and Archaeology, UWI, Mona and the Embassy of the United States, Kingston. The Lecture is entitled, “Unfolding History: Chattel Slavery in the U.S.A. The Sesquicentennial Anniversary of its Abolition and Concerns about Modern day Resurgence of Slavery”. The event is set to take place on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 3 pm at the Multi Functional Room, Main Library. 
 
The Lecture will commemorate the sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of the abolition of chattel slavery in the United States on September 22.  
 
Dr. Raymond Brown is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service (2005) and most recently served as the foreign policy advisor to the Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (2009-2012). His prior position was as Counselor of Embassy for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa (2006-2009). From 2003 to 2006, he was Director of the Orientation Training Division at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State where he led and oversaw implementation of seven orientation programs for all categories of new Department of State employees.
