The CCDC has always maintained a research agenda
complementing the many training, networking and developmental
activities, frequently in collaborative with UWI colleagues. A new
focus on research has started, with an aim to develop research
programmes in 3 main areas:
Macro-issues in Early Childhood Development
This area continues a large focus of the CCDC in recent years.
Children and Violence in the Caribbean
This will continue ongoing research in collaboration with colleagues at
the Epidemiology Research Unit on the development of aggressive/
antisocial tendencies of children in Jamaica and the rest of the
Caribbean, and the effects of societal violence on children.
HIV/AIDS and Affected Children
This area of work started with aqualitative investigation in two
adjacent communities in Montego Bay of current attitudes and practices
within communities and institutions in relation to young children
infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
