In 2010 a cross-University Task Force aimed at achieving a more regional university was established. The decision arose in part from a persistent sense that in recent years the University has been losing its regional character, as well as on the basis of an Inter-Campus Student Guild Committee’s report to the May, 2010 University Finance and General Purposes Committee meeting, containing measures to restore the West Indies back to The University of the West Indies.
Coming out of that Task Force, its Chair, Professor Brian Meeks prepared and presented a report to University Council containing recommendations primarily based on surveying a cross section of internal and external stakeholders across The University and the region.
Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Beckles has recently established the One University Task Force (One UWI) as many of The University’s issues with respect to a fragmented image and operations continue to exist.
The One University Task Force has been activated as of December, 2015 with the following terms of reference:
To examine and make recommendations on the governance of the Open Campus and the extent to which its current makeup is appropriate to discharge its mandate.
Examine all major administrative processes that relate to students, staff and other stakeholders to determine the level of harmony and consistency.
Analyse UWI’s Enterprise Solutions (Banner Students and Finance and PeopleSoft etc.) to determine the level of harmony and consistency.
Make recommendations as deemed necessary to promote ‘One UWI’.
Recommend strategies that will promote the internal and external perception of ‘One UWI’.
Share your questions, comments, concerns and/or recommendations on ways in which we can improve in consistency and focus throughout The UWI, as we seek to strengthen its brand to make a greater global footprint.
