CARIBBEAN CONFERENCE ON THE ENVIRONMENT

“Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice, and Policy”
July 7-8, 2009
Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies

 

The Environmental Management Programme, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, is pleased to host a Caribbean Conference on the Environment, under the theme ‘Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice, and Policy.’ The Conference seeks to offer a forum for academics, professionals, practitioners, and policy-makers working in environmental fields throughout the Caribbean to share perspectives, and to explore and discuss issues surrounding environmental research, practice, and policy-making.

Conference Strands

Submissions related to research, practice, and policy-making are invited. There will be the presentation of papers and a poster session. Papers and posters may address the following issues of interest but topics outside of these areas, relevant to the Conference theme, are also welcome:

 - environment and health  - parks and protected areas 
 - waste management  - urban planning
 - disaster management  - environmental education
 - climate change  - children and the environment
 - food security systems / agriculture - GIS as an environmental management tool
 - land management     
 - biodiversity - community based resource management
 - tourism - environmental research


Guidelines for Abstracts

Abstracts relevant to the Conference theme should be submitted to caribconf2009@ymail.com by December 19, 2008. Abstracts of 250 words should be in Microsoft Word format and should include a title, authors’ names, email addresses, affiliations, and brief biographical data (outlined in 2-3 sentences). Persons will be notified of acceptance of their abstracts by January 12, 2009.

Important Dates:

December 19, 2008:   Deadline for submission of paper abstracts and poster topics
January 12, 2009:   Presenters notified
April 6, 2009:
 Registration
April  20, 2009:   Submission of full papers (Microsoft Word)
June 22, 2009:   Submission of presentations
