About

Among the most pressing global problems today are the protection and management of the world’s natural resources. In order for us to meet increasingly complex and interrelated environmental challenges and issues at global, regional, and national levels, it is imperative that current and future generations are not only made aware of the importance of the earth’s natural resources; they also must be equipped with the requisite knowledge and tools to manage and conserve these resources. In the Caribbean, this mandate is of particular import given the environmental challenges faced by the region’s Small Island Developing States. Consequently, there is considerable need to raise awareness about the work of environmental professionals in the Caribbean, to facilitate the exchange of information and practice among these individuals, and to share knowledge and experience with the wider public.

The Environmental Management Programme, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, through funding by the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ) is pleased to host a Caribbean Conference on the Environment, under the theme ‘Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice, and Policy.’ The Conference seeks to offer a forum for academics, professionals, practitioners, and policy-makers working in environmental fields throughout the Caribbean to share perspectives, and to explore and discuss issues surrounding environmental research, practice, and policy-making.

Paper presentations, poster sessions, and roundtable discussions will address diverse environmental issues, including but not limited to, environmental education, climate change, waste and pollution, tourism, and environmental policy.
