All the M.Sc Streams share the four core courses.

  • Philosophies, Concepts, and Issues in Environmental Management (4 credits)
  • Research and Project Planning for Environmental Management (4 credits)
  • Professional Skills for Environmental Management (4 credits)
  • Introduction to Environmental Planning and Management (4 credits)
Specialisation Courses

Integrated Urban and Rural Environmental Management

Integrated Environmental Management (14 credits)

  • Land and Water
  • Environmental Hazards and Disasters
  • Waste Management
  • Environment and Health
  • National Parks, Tourism and Recreational Amenities

Research Project (10 credits)

Sustainable Urbanisation

Sustainable Urbanisation MSc students must take both of the following courses:

  • The Urbanisation of Nature (4 credits)
  • Urban Land and Planning for Sustainable Development (4 credits)

Electives

Sustainable Urbanisation M.Sc. students must take Introduction to Urban Society and Space and any one of the other 3-credit courses listed below.

  • Urban Governance and Participation (3 credits)*
  • Urban Architecture as Cultural Landscape (3 credits)*
  • Transportation and Urban Design (3 credits)*

Other approved courses for MSc. and other postgraduate students might include courses on Waste Management, Environmental Hazards and Disasters, and Environment and Health, which are offered in the Integrated Urban and Rural Environmental Management stream.

* These elective courses may not be available every academic year.

Research Project (10 credits)

Disaster Management

M.Sc. students must take the following two specialisation courses:

  • Principles of Disaster Management (4 credits)
  • Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (4 credits)

AND any two of the following electives:

  • Environmental Hazards and their Impacts (3 credits)*
  • Techniques and Tools in Disaster Management (3 credits)*
  • Disaster Information and Communication (3 credits)*
  • Community Disaster Management Planning (3 credits)*
  • Health and Medical Issues in Disaster Management (3 credits)*

Other approved courses for MSc. and other postgraduate students would include the course on Waste Management which is offered in the existing Integrated Urban and Rural Environmental Management stream.
